Uber wants to launch UberX and Uber Ljubljana in Slovenian capital

Uber wants to launch two services in the Slovenian capital.

Picking up on Ljubljana’s status as the 2016 European Green Capital, the US ride-hailing company wants to introduce Uber Ljubljana, the first in the world to offer rides in electric cars, and UberX, its most common service in Europe.

“Talks to enter Slovenia are under way, we hope to launch as soon as possible,” Uber’s Central and Eastern Europe director Rob Khazzam told the press on Wednesday. However, he added that the country would have to update its legislation before Uber can come to Slovenia.

The existing legislation does not support Uber’s business model, which is why the Infrastructure Ministry is to draft changes to the road transport act by the end of the year.

The US company would moreover like the ministry to take into account the European Commission’s recommendations on sharing economy when drafting the changes.
