Marko Grobelnik appointed new digital champion

The government has appointed Marko Grobelnik Slovenia’s new digital champion, a position created in 2012 at the initiative of the European Commission, with its main role being the promotion of the use of the latest technologies.

Grobelnik is succeeding the first digital champion, Aleš Špetič, whose term expired in May.

“He is a renowned and established expert in the field of digital technology, with international experience in his area of work,” the Government Communication Office said on Thursday after the cabinet appointed Grobelnik for a four-year term.

Grobelnik is a researcher at the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana and the director and founder of the information technology company Quintelligence. He has extensive knowledge in data mining, machine learning, analysis of networks and data visualisation.

According to the government, the new digital champion has communication competences in managing teams, presenting project work and mentorship of students at all levels, as well as competences for the organisation of international events and coordination of international projects.
